Est. weekly gathering — all levels welcome

Russian Club клуб русского языка и культуры — russianclubmsu.tech

Practice your Russian over tea, lose a hand of durak, and watch cartoons that your parents (or grandparents) grew up on. No fluency required, just curiosity.

О клубе

Language, cards, and cartoons

The Russian Language Club is a student-run space for anyone interested in the Russian language and the wider Russian-speaking world. Heritage speakers, language learners, and the simply curious are all welcome.

We meet weekly for conversation practice, play durak until someone finally learns not to lead with their trump card, and screen classic Soviet and Russian cartoons with subtitles. Snacks and tea included.

Чем занимаемся

What we actually do

Language practice

Small-group conversation. We are very informal but also have set lessons and homework practice!

Durak tournaments

Card games with real bragging rights (Euchre too). We'll teach you the rules.

Cartoon nights

Cheburashka, Nu Pogodi!, Winnie the Pooh (yes, that one). All with English subtitles.

Tea & snacks

Every meeting comes with чай and something to eat, sometimes something homemade.

Cultural events

Maslenitsa celebrations, holiday potlucks, and the occasional trip to a Russian grocery store.

Open to everyone

No major, background, or heritage required. Bring a friend, bring your curiosity.

A note from our club

We stand with Ukraine

Our club celebrates the Russian language and the cultures that share it — and that includes standing firmly against the war in Ukraine and with everyone affected by it. Language and culture are not the property of any government, and love for one does not require silence about the other.
